Getting Out In Style

On an up and down day, we finished off very stylishly indeed in the last race at Moonee Valley last week, when our Best Roughie of the day saluted at very nice odds for those looking for a get out.

BEST ROUGH: Race 9: 6-MOURINHO 1st W=$17.10, P=$4.20

Even better, we justified why we made it the Best Rough bet of the day and he pretty much won as we predicted. Well, there is a first time for everything.

This one just loves MV, and has won 3 from 7 here, and just keeps popping up at odds in his races. Better over further and is 1st up today, but so is most of this field, and he has drawn OK so might settle closer than expected. Ran a huge race 1st up last time in at odds. Most of these are going to drop back and are looking to kick off spring campaigns to loftier targets, so if he jumps and settles on speed here he is going to put himself into the finish. Worth something each way at odds at around $18.

The Betting Portfolio made a $34 profit, and was probably unlucky not to be more, with the Best Each Way and Daily Double just missing, and getting a little ripped off with a small quinella dividend around another one we pushed at good odds, Race 4: 13-RELENTLESS 1st W=$9.10

2014 Spring Campaign: 2 weeks - 1 profit - 1 return - 0 wipe outs - Net: +$10.20

We now have our list of Horses To Follow up and running with form links to each runner. Plus there is a very handy Track Archive listing the racing pattern for every Melbourne major spring meeting for the last 15 years, which is stuff you just won't find anywhere else on this great, big internet thingy.

Check out how the Betting Portfolio is going at the Bottom Line.

FROM THE RACING ARCHIVES - SEVEN YEARS IN A ROW
_____________________________________________________________________

It is great that in this modern age you can lazily access any bit of information almost immediately online.

But there is only one website that is prepared to put in a special effort. Go that extra yard. Delve into the climate controlled historical archives (also known as the garage) and pull out the Racing Archives.

Every week this spring we will be featuring a little bit of hard copy history from the Racing Archives.

THIS WEEK: SIR BOOM

We thought we might feature a bit of a no namer this week, and one of our favourite horses from the 1990s, the super consistent on pacer SIR BOOM.

SIR BOOM had a whopping 97 career starts between 1994 and 2002, racing from the ages of two to ten years old.

He ran 4th in the 1995 Memsie Stakes, won the 1996 Memsie, ran 8th in 1997, ran 9th in 1998, and then won again in 1999, before finishing 5th in 2000, and 5th again in 2001 Memsie Stakes.

That's right - he ran in the Memsie Stakes for SEVEN consecutive years and managed to win the race twice, four years apart.

And most punters can't even be bothered getting off the couch to go the track for one year, yet alone seven years in a row.

Be inspired by SIR BOOM and get yourself trackside.

ADOPT A JOCKEY
____________________________________

Come Spring time these cute little cuddly fellas are always so popular.

Everyone wants one or wants to look like one at the fancy dress Melbourne Cup BBQ.

Remember a jockey is not just for Spring Carnival.

At the end of every Cup Week unloved jockeys are often just left abandoned on the steps of the local TAB.

So think about adopting a jockey. They are available in a wide range of silks / colour schemes so they can make a great garden feature.
