Turf Deli Racing News

A Tragic Day

It was a tragic day on Tuesday with the sad passing of two Melbourne Cup runners ADMIRE RAKTI and ARALDO in two separate incidents.

We pass our condolences onto their owners, trainers, strappers and connections who cared for their horses and are obviously devestated at their loss.

The racing industry and punters around Australia mourn with you.

Clean Sweep

It was a clean sweep this spring for the international horses in all three feature races, with the Caulfield Cup going to the Japanese, the Cox Plate going to ADELAIDE (trying to make it sound Australian), and the Melbourne Cup going to Germany.

That is one impressive feat and makes betting on the spring features such hard work for punters. Let alone dodgy tipping services.

In what could be another very impressive feat, so far this week the horse we have written off as the One To Risk in our feature race previews has won BOTH the Derby and the Melbourne Cup. How embarrassment.

We are on track for an unprecedented clean sweep of potting the chances of the winners of all four feature races!

Thus, we are determined to take on the favourites in the Oaks and Stakes, as it would be incredibly funny if we could snare all four races.

Cup Day is always a pretty tough day on the punt and there were plenty of ridiculous dividends as always.

We got off to our good start with our top pick and Best Each Way Bet: Race 2: 5-PRECIOUS GEM 1st W=$5.70, but struggled to get runs on the board after that. The Betting Portfolio got back about half of its money but has racked up a few losses in a row now so the healthy profit we were showing earlier in the year is slowly being eaten away.

2014 Spring Campaign: 15 weeks - 6 profits - 8 returns - 1 wipe out. Net: +$155.55

PUNTING TERMINOLOGY
____________________________________

Betting terminology for those once a year Cup Week punters.

#1 - THE QUINELLA

A quinella is the first and second horse in any order.

Pronounced QUIN-EL-A

It is a Super Bet - not a Super Food

Don't get the two mixed up. Quinellas are only tasty when you get an outsider in the finish.

GOLD GOLD GOLD
________________________________

Forget that streaky, artificial orange spray tan this spring and look like a million dollars with the all over, head to toe, gold spray tan.

The ultimate in spring bling accessories.

Totally weather proof - protects against sun, rain, tomato sauce and swooping magpies.

Also available in copper and bronze.

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

Help your weanlings grow up to be strong sprinter-milers with Black Caviar endorsed black caviar.

Yummy. The kids will be screaming.... for more?

The breakfast of champions - and pre dinner party snack of the social elite.

FLEMINGTON TRACK GUIDE
______________________________________

If you are heading out to races during Cup Week check out our Flemington Track Guide.

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

Getting There
-The train is the only way to go - don't even think about driving. Trains leave Flinders St and Southern Cross every few minutes during Cup week and will take you straight there. Enjoy the scenic ride as you go through the Flemington industrial estate and past the large pie in the sky in the Showgrounds. Remember to touch on and that you need to pre-book tickets during Cup Week as there are no tickets for sale on the gate

The Bart Statue
- We are pretty sure, that if you read the fine print on your entry ticket, you will find that it is actually one of the compulsory Terms and Condition of entry to get your photo taken with the Bart Cummings statue. Wander past at any time during Cup Week and you will find madly grinning punters posing with Bart for a photo opportunity.

Toilets:
- It always pays to know where the sturdy, spacious permanent toilet blocks are. If you go out the back of the course, towards the main car park, past the book makers ring, just near the Flemington Heritage centre there is a major, solid, permanent and very under utilised toilet block. No frustrating lines for the ladies in their race day finest.

THE DIVA
______________________________________

Your TV screens are about to get smoking hot.

Breaking news this week, that following on from this season of The Bachelor, reality programming will go to a whole new level with an exciting new show named The Diva.

Whilst dating programs have always been focused on beautiful human boys and girls, The Diva will be the first to break new ground into the realm of animal husbandry.

Follow the dating life of three times Oaks Day winner MAKYBE DIVA as she strives to find true love in the push, shove and mount world that is the mating season.

MAKYBE DIVA has been unlucky in love since retiring from her stellar racing career.

Following the standard formula for any dating show, The Diva, will take her group of prospective stallions out on group dates, with specially chosen lucky lads getting to progress to one on one activity dates such as sky diving, ten pin bowling and um, horse riding (still working on that one).

At the end of each show, it is crunch time for the prospective suitors in The Stable Ceremony where The Diva has to choose which unsuspecting stallion to send onto the float and on his way home.

Will it be one stomp for Yes, or two stomps for No? Tune in and find out.
