Turf Deli Racing News

Weekend Getaways

For the first time this year Moonee Valley are attempting an ambitious double header with the Cox Plate meeting being split into a Friday night and a Saturday afternoon meeting.

There has also been a lot of talk around this week as Channel Nine showed its undying commitment to televising racing by asking the Moonee Valley Racing Club to bring the Cox Plate forward an half hour - so it didn't run into ratings winner Getaway or repeats of the Bugs Bunny Show.

Considering it is a Friday night into Saturday arvo, there really doesn't seem to be that much point in going home. So we think they have missed out on a great cross promotional opportunity here.

Introducing the Moonee Valley Weekend Getaway packages:

The Rager

Appealing to the younger demographic, this all inclusive package allows the keen race goer to stick around after the last race on Friday night for some traditional Friday night activities.

Set on the luscious main lawns, the privacy of a well worn but comfy couch is all yours to settle back, put your feet up and order in some cheap pizza to quell those late night munchies. Be entertained as the new super screen is flicked over to Rage for the evening and hopefully Daryl Braithwaite and his Horses will pop up at some stage during the night, and then chill out till dawn break. Then de-crumb, de-fluff and de-crease and you are right, ready and raring to go for the Cox Plate.

The Stalls

For those wanting a more authentic racing experience, the Stalls package may be just what you are looking for. Experience what racing is all about as you bed down on a comfy hay floor in one of the many race day stalls out the back of the course. Up bright and early, and one of our experienced track riders will ride you around the course for a sharp 800M hit out, before the refreshing invigoration of a ice-cold hose down.

Can you imagine any better way to start the day ?

Includes complimentary parking for one float. Full breakfast is provided, including wheat, oats and grains in your very own complimentary chaff bag.

The Grand

For those who are more budget conscious, settle in for the night on one of Moonee Valley's ultra comfortable plastic seats high up in the grandstand, and do you very best to detach yourself from them the next day. Choose from one of the wide range of pre-loved feature race horse blankets to keep you warm for a cosy night under the Moonee Valley stars.

The Tower

If you are looking for a bit more luxury then the Moonee Valley Towers package is right for you. In your own private stewards tower with sweeping views of the car park you can spend a unique night far from the madding crowd. Comfortably sleeps ten - standing up. A large clock will mean you always know exactly what time it is. This offer is strictly limited to the first ten people who can race up the stairs so remember to book early.

No risk $200 ping with BETFAIR

This is your big chance to pick one at odds in the Cox Plate and try and land a sizeable bounty.

The strategy is pretty simple.

Plonk up to $200 on the nose at one at odds tomorrow, or sometime over Cup Week.

If it wins - you are laughing.

If not - no drama, you get your money back and go back to your normal betting.

Always read the Terms and Conditions on these offers - to make sure you make the most of them.

This offer is for new accounts only who join via this link .

It needs to be the first bet in your new account, and it needs to be a single bet up to $200 so you need to find a price on offer where you can bet the whole amount in one go, else use the Betfair Starting Price option.

So maybe join up, wait to till you see something you like and just go for it. Great if you are a small punter and always dreamed of having a serious bash at one at odds.

Using a similar offer last year several small punters on our mailing list had substantial four figure collects with $200 win bets on roughie PINKER PINKER in last year's Cox Plate. It is a great chance to have a big collect without any risk involved.

Last Week's Results

Close To Popping

We were frustratingly close in the selections and the betting portfolio last week, but just couldn't quite go pop. There were a swag of nice value runners around the finish, but we just needed the finishing post to be about 50M closer.

We were really super keen on our top pick 15-ALCOPOP 2nd W=$13.30 in the Caulfield Cup and fully confess to going the early crow when he pinged clear early in the straight as we predicted.

Darn those internationals and their superior staying ability.

Realistically, 2-DUNADEN appears to be a bit of a freak - that was one very impressive win. But we will firmly stick to only considering internationals who have been here before and proven they are up to the task, or have raced here this time in so we know how they are going. There is no point in betting on unknowns.

The tips went along OK, with two winners on top and five winners in the selections, including the longest priced winner of the day:

Race 1: 5-A TIME FOR JULIA 1st W=$2.00
Race 3: 5-HVASSTAN 1st W=$4.60
Race 4: 8-ALZORA 1st W=$21.70
Race 6: 7-HOWMUCHDOYOULOVEME 1st W=$3.30, Quin=$16.60
Race 7: 5-LIGHTINTHENITE 1st W=$2.60, Quin=$6.00

The Betting Portfolio got most of its money back with a few each way bets and was around the money in most races. Still struggling to get points on the board in the profits column this spring.

2012 Spring Campaign: 12 weeks - 1 profits - 7 returns - 4 wipe outs - Net: -$350.85

PIERRO IS A VERY SPECIAL BOY
______________________________________

Trainer Gai Waterhouse has applied to the stewards to allow Cox Plate favourite PIERRO to have special padding in his barrier.

However, the stewards denied requests for him to be allowed to take his teddy bear and night light in with him citing that he was a big boy now and didn't need them anymore.
