Tearing Up The Dance Floor
- and the racetrack

The Melbourne Racing Club are firmly committed to new and exciting live entertainment experiences and this weekend Caulfield is going to get very rock n roll indeed.

Sure you have heard of out of control rock bands wrecking hotel rooms before. Having wild parties. Throwing TVs into swimming pools.

But that is nothing compared to the party animals at the MRC.

Have you ever heard of a DJ tearing up a race track?

The Caulfield Cup carnival is over - and it is time to go totally off and trash the track.

Normally the course proper is a no go area.

It is strictly reserved only for Cup runners, jockeys with poking sticks and the odd drunken streaker seeking post race glory. If you want to walk on it you need to take your shoes off first, and then walk on tippy toes.

Not this year though.

With the Caulfield track due to be torn up and replaced the instant they cross the line in the last, this year the post race concert is actually on the winning post itself!

Race goers will be allowed onto the track, to dance, canter, trot and walk in the esteemed hoof prints and dung piles of their Caulfield Cup idols.

This is a unique experience. It is #winningpostselfie time. We suspect Twitter is going to explode with some awesome photos.

No sticky carpets. No hard concrete floors. A lush, green, GOOD(3) dance floor.

You don't even need to worry about if you spill some drinks, the drainage system will deal with that quick smart.

The course proper is going to totally go off. And then get dug up. We could name a few nightclubs that also deserve this honour.

Last Week's Results

Not The Thousand Guineas

We plodded along OK mid-week at the Blue Sapphire meeting. Though most of you were probably working and not studying the form guide.

The Best Bet, Race 5: 7-ELOPING 1st W=$3.00 got up, and the Best Each Way Bet Race 1: 10-BRING BACK 2nd W=$12.50 only just missed kicking off the day with a bang.

The Betting Portfolio got most of its money back, but couldn't quite sneak across the line into profit.

There really wasn't very much to report at all - so maybe go back to the Caulfield Guineas results, they were much more fun!

2014 Spring Campaign: 11 weeks - 6 profits - 4 returns - 1 wipe out. Net: +$251.15

TURF DELI PUNTING TIPS
_____________________________________________________________________

#1 - STEWARDS REPORTS

As a punter it always pays to read the Stewards reports for those vital bits of information about what happened in a horse's previous starts.

Who was slowly away, who was held up for runs, who pulled up lame and ..

Vital information, like who swallowed what sort of insects and how it affected their performance.

CAULFIELD TRACK GUIDE
______________________________________

If you are heading out to Caulfield this week check out our Caulfield Track Guide .

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

FOOD
No more chips and dim sims during feature meetings, head down to Eat Street for some real tasty food, in front of the Black Caviar Pavilion

TOILETS
- the once a year attendees queue for the portables, or crowd into the ground floor facilities of the main grandstand. Those with some inside knowledge walk out the back of the course and towards the stables, opposite the old betting ring where the old, red brick large toilet block is clean, sturdy, and has no frustrating lines - even for the girls.

Check out what's on at Caulfield on Saturday.

SPRING CARNIVAL SNAPSHOT

#5 - THE TRACK WALKER

If you cast your eye out onto the course in between races, you might just catch sight of the professionalism of some jockeys.

Carefully walking the track. Pounding the ground. Watching for wear and tear. Looking for the best going to ensure they give their mounts the very best chance in the next race.

Either that - or they lost their bloody car keys during the running of the previous.

BRUNCH QUADDIE
______________________________________

We thought the TAB missed a great marketing opportunity with the introduction of the "Early Quaddie" earlier on this year.

It is not a very inspiring name.

The TAB have been concerned about the downturn in retail wagering with more people betting online at home and on mobile devices.

But, just imagine if they had called it the Brunch Quaddie.

Immediately there would have been long queues of eager inner city Melbournians lining up around the block for an over priced not quite breakfast and not quite lunch experience.

Utter the word Brunch and they will come. Problem solved.
