Turf Deli Spring Racing Carnival - Caulfield Guineas 2002 Preview
Caulfield Guineas  2002 - Preview - The Glaze In Their Eyes 12/10/02

Now that all that hoo hah with Magpies and Lions is out of the way, its time to move onto the next major event in the sporting calender - the Spring Racing Carnival.

Fortunately, those in high places have realised that it is not the hardened athletes, the high flying "speccies" , or the tight shorts that draws huge crowds to the football - it's the accompanying ballads by Mike Brady. So Caulfield race course now has its very own power ballad - The Courage in Their Eyes - with full choir and orchestra backing. The song describes the bravery of the champion race horse fighting back against the odds, pays tribute to the jockey risking life and limb to dive through that narrow gap, honours the punter bravely leaving the favourite out in the 1st leg of the quaddie and marvels at the fashion on the fields entrant courageously mixing stripes and polka dots on the same outfit.

Of course, for most going to the Spring Racing Party Fests, a more appropriate title would have been The Distinct Glaze in Their Eyes (And A Stagger In Their Step).
