Cox Plate 2001 - Preview - Nostradamus Tips 27/10/01

Off to Moonee Valley this week for the Cox Plate, made more interesting this year by the arrival of yet another overseas challenger, the German stayer Silvano. His jockey this week described him as 'my Ferrari' - which is fine, but considering the tightness and size of the Moonee Valley circuit it is strictly 20 kmh per hour around the bends and no over taking. Silvano's trainer was also reported to be 'surprised' when he saw the size of the track. This is probably the same sort of 'surprise' that 1st home buyers get from real estate agents when they find out exactly how big a 'cosy' 2 bedroom workers cottage in the inner city is.

The Cox Plate is also sees the much anticipated clash of Northerly and Sunline, a clash that has been eagerly awaited for centuries. Dear old Nostradamus has been getting a lot of press recently, but what is little known about him is that he was actually quite a keen punter, and his quatrains were just cleverly disguised ways of hiding his selections for the quaddie to make sure no-one squashed his dividends.

In Century 21, quatrain 17 (which chillingly is number of corn flakes that were left in the packet this morning), he predicts :

From the North the great beast will ride,
To challenge the daughter of the sun.
A battle will rage deep in the valley of the moon,
Throw King Keitel in as the value for your trifectas.
