Melbourne Cup 2006 - Preview - Champion Jockey – Available for Odd Jobs 07/11/2006

The cup coverage will be gushing with praise over the English raider YEATS, the latest of the much feared international horses sent to wreak havoc on us poor weak kneed inferior convict stock.

His jockey Kieran Fallon has the unusual responsibility of also being entrusted with a sort of playing coach role , following in the esteemed footsteps of Alex Jesaulenko, and now Shane Heal. Trainer Aidan O'Brien couldn’t bear to drag himself away from the final of Ireland’s Dancing With The Stars to make it down for the race, so jockey Fallon is also managing the horse’s track work, as well as various race day responsibilities, including deciding the tactics on the day, and co-ordinating YEATS outfit to the after race party.

Fallon does have plenty of time on his hands – he is currently suspended from riding in England pending a race fixing inquiry. Apart from being the jockey, and stand in trainer, he is going to jump off and help the barrier attendants load the horses, come back after the race is run and replace any divots in the track he may have caused, and stick around after the last to stack up the chairs in the marquees.
