We had a bumper Cup / Oaks / Stakes Day, finding an absolute stack of value winners. Doubt you will find many tipsters or tipping services that went better during Cup week (especially those who ask you to pay for tips - as if !). Stakes Day was the highlight though. Only the 1 winner on top, but 4 winners in the selections, including one at extremely nice odds indeed.

Our good form from Cup Day continued onto Oaks day with yet more value winners. There is nothing better than to start the day with a left of centre, $16 winner on top in the first race. Mainly cause those silly Williams stable runners always start far too short, so there is no point in tipping them – or backing them. Overall, from 9 races, there were 2 winners on top, and 5 winners in the selections

Mud cakes, The weather stayed fine just long enough on Derby Day to trick 90,000 people into going to the races and then it come pouring down. Shocking day on the punt, so hard to line up the form with the conditions all over the place, and the big winners on the day were the dry cleaners and the guys who sell the plastic waterproof coats.

23/10/2010 - Moonee Valley - Cox Plate

It was an amazing days racing at Moonee Valley last week. Potential super freak SO YOU THINK made history by not only winning his second Cox Plate, but by also surviving a full rendition of Daryl Braithwaite's bland-tastic "Horses". Not sure which is the more significant achievement ? Daryl definitely was more of a threat to victory than any of the four legged opposition.

16/10/2010 - Caulfield - Caulfield Cup

We got off to a pretty good start at Caulfield last week, before sinking to our knees in the mud in the later part of the program. We managed to find 5 of the first 6 winners in the selections, most at backable odds - ALOTTA SPUR 1st W=$4.80, MR CHARD 1st W=$5.80, DIZLAGO 1st W=$8.70, RETRIEVE 1st W=$2.00, ROTHERA 1st W=$8.00. Even better we started off on a roll boxing up the first 3 quinellas as well, Race 1 : $12.70, Race 2 : $7.00 and a juicy Race 3 : $41.90.

We had a pretty good mid-week jaunt at Caulfield for Thousand Guineas Day. From 7 races (and losing a few selections to scratchings) we managed two winners on top - FASTER SON 1st W=$4.30, PREVENTABLE 1st W=$3.10 - and a nice value winner in the selections - 8-SPURCIFIC 1st W=$12.50. Even better that value winner was our Best Rough of the Day in the Betting Portfolio, and we found the rather tasty $53.90 quinella in the selections.

03/10/2010 - Flemington - Turnbull Stakes

Glorious Sunday sunshine last week at Flemington for the Turnbull Stakes, unfortunately only a dribble of winners as the tips struggled a bit on a tough day on the punt. Just the one dead set obvious winner on top, the increasingly infallible HAY LIST W=$1.50, with a few value winners in the selections - TERRITORY W=$2.90, HARRIS TWEED W=$6.90, and SISTINE ANGEL W=$9.80.

24/09/2010 - Moonee Valley - Manikato Stakes

Just an average night out last Friday night at Moonee Valley for the selections. And an extremely average night out if you were silly enough to actually sit foot on the racecourse. The hopelessly understaffed on course tote meant it was a 10-15 minute queue to put a bet on - which doesn't really work when races are only a half hour apart. We managed to find 3 winners on top, and 5 winners in the selections, but they were all dead set obvious short priced favourites so that's going to impress no-one - especially not the bank manager.

The Turf Deli tips crashed out badly last Saturday at Caulfield, with only one winner somehow managing to sneak it's way into the selections. And yet - we managed to post a rather nice +$180 profit in the Betting Portfolio ! What sort of sorcery be this ? It can only be witchcraft - or the many ups and downs of the punting rollercoaster.

Chaos reigned at Moonee Valley last week. Before the main race, all the trainers, owners and jockeys stood around the mounting yard, stomping their feet, and holding their breath cause no one wanted to lead in the feature race as the track was favouring those runners on. The Turf Deli tips had a pretty good day out, we managed to find 4 winners on top
