Turf Deli Racing News

Unbelievable!

There is really only one word to describe what happened at Flemington on Tuesday - and that is Unbelievable.

Most movies don't have scripts that good. The new Star Wars movie can only be rubbish by comparison.

The first female jockey to win the Melbourne Cup.

From a life long and very large country racing family.

Riding a 100-1 outsider.

Beating a quality field of international runners.

Strapped by a brother who has now become a national celebrity.

We just typed Stevie into Google - and "Payne" is the first option, coming up before "Wonder" and "Nicks".

Now that is famous.

No-one on course backed it - but the crowds on the lawn were ecstatic. When the green colours of 19-PRINCE OF PENZANCE hit the lead, people knew the whole story and you could hear the "No Way" and "Wow" cries all around.

It was a fabulous moment in racing history and one that everyone on course that day will remember.

Having a bet over Cup Week?

If you are going to have a bet over Cup Week it is worth checking out what the bookmakers have on offer.

You don't have to bet with the TAB!

You can open up an account online and be up and running in a few minutes, place all the same bets as the TAB, and often getting better odds and lots of additional bonus offers.

Which means you can make your punting dollar last even longer.

Sportsbet are offering:

Matching the value of your first bet up to $150
- New accounts (ACT, QLD, TAS, NT only)

* Residents of other states. Don't be scared away by the asterisks. Once you open an account you are eligible for all the rest of the bonuses on offer. There are always plenty of additional bonus bets going around.

Top Tote Plus
- best price out of the three TABs and Starting Price so you are always going to get better odds.

Weekly money back refunds

Power Prices
- better odds between Saturday 10am and 11am. We do much of our punting shopping in bulk through this offer.

The weekly money refund specials are especially good. It means you can just back a horse straight out to win and go for glory, with an insurance return if it gets beaten and runs a place. These are real money back offers too, not bonus bets like some betting agencies.

Punting Wipe Outs

Melbourne Cup Day was a total wipe out for punters, with lots of long shot winners and a quaddie that paid a whopping $496,000 dollars. Multiply that by any percentage and it is still a very decent collect

The best advice we could give in the preview was to bet small, have fun - and throw as many silly roughies into bets are you could. What do you mean you didn't get the quaddie?

The track at Flemington this week has been an utter disgrace with those racing against the rails and on speed strongly advantaged on both days. They even took the unusual step on Tuesday of releasing a press statement along the lines of "Hey Jockeys - Middle of the Track - Don't Even Bother - Seriously". Cup Week punting is hard enough as it is without throwing that into the mix.

The tips really struggled and we could barely find a place getter, yet alone a winner. Just the one winner on top and one in the selections. And no - we didn't give the Melbourne Cup winner much of a chance either.

Race 2: 2-ZARAZLI 1st W=$2.30 -top pick
Race 8: 15-AWESOME ROCK 1st W=$11.20

The Betting Portfolio had a wipe out, which wasn't unexpected, though we managed two fourths again in our each way bets. Everything is firmly stuck in the red with only three meetings to go this spring, so expect to see a few dream quaddie attempts appear as a last ditch effort to restore some credibility.

2015 Spring Campaign: 16 weeks - 5 profits - 8 returns - 2 wipe outs. Net: $-334.70

THE DIVA

Your TV screens are about to get smoking hot.

Breaking news this week, that following on from this season of The Bachelor, reality programming will go to a whole new level with an exciting new show named The Diva.

Whilst dating programs have always been focused on beautiful human boys and girls, The Diva will be the first to break new ground into the realm of animal husbandry.

Follow the dating life of three times Melbourne Cup winner MAKYBE DIVA as she strives to find true love in the push, shove and mount world that is the mating season.

MAKYBE DIVA has been unlucky in love since retiring from her stellar racing career.

Following the standard formula for any dating show, The Diva, will take her group of prospective stallions out on group dates, with specially chosen lucky lads getting to progress to one on one activity dates such as sky diving, ten pin bowling and um, horse riding (still working on that one).

At the end of each show, it is crunch time for the prospective suitors in The Stable Ceremony where The Diva has to choose which unsuspecting stallion to send onto the float and on his way home.

Will it be one stomp for Yes, or two stomps for No? Tune in and find out.

THE MOUNTING YARD
___________________________________

Expert punters know how important it is to check out the condition of your horse in the Mounting Yard before the race.

#2 - THE COAT

Check that the coat goes with the season. Winter coats on warm spring race days are a total fashion faux pas.

Coats only comes in black, brown, bay, chestnut and grey which is a crying shame because soft pastels are really trending this year.

LIFE ON MARS
______________________________________

Earlier this year, the NASA space exploration program made a startling discovery on the red planet Mars.

No, not water. That's there obviously - without a water cooler there would be nothing for Martians to stand around when having work place conversations.

No, not alien life forms. They all moved to Earth long ago and started up popular Instagram accounts.

Astonishingly, they found a computer system capable of handling more than 24 runners in a race and could therefore cope with emergencies in the Melbourne Cup!

"We were blown away", said a NASA spokesman "It was totally unexpected. We knew alien life might be more intelligent than us, but this was beyond our wildest expectations".

FLEMINGTON TRACK GUIDE
___________________________________

If you are heading out to races during Cup Week check out our Flemington Track Guide.

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

Getting There
- The train is the only way to go - don't even think about driving. Trains leave Flinders St and Southern Cross every few minutes during Cup week and will take you straight there. Enjoy the scenic ride as you go through the Flemington industrial estate and past the large pie in the sky in the Showgrounds. Remember to touch on and that you need to pre-book tickets during Cup Week as there are no tickets for sale at the gate

Toilets:
- It always pays to know where the sturdy, spacious permanent toilet blocks are. If you go out the back of the course, towards the main car park, past the bookmakers ring, just near the Flemington Heritage centre there is a major, solid, permanent and very under utilised toilet block. No frustrating lines for the ladies in their race day finest.

Charge Up:
- Between Facebook check ins, numerous selfies, messaging back and forth to catch up with people and browsing all your different betting accounts it is a long tiring day for your poor mobile phone. So make sure you are fully charged before you leave home, and find out where the re-charging booths are on course. Because once you are off the air you are going to miss out on all the fun!

Location of phone charging booths.

Know Your Tote Operator
The TAB always wheels out a lot of short term, very inexperienced casual staff during Cup Week, many of whom have not even set foot on a racecourse before - yet alone had a bet, and have had minimal training. If you bet on course and bet in cash be patient and understanding. But also watch out for the experienced tote operators who can quickly and accurately enter your bet. You will know instantly which tote operators are on the ball and which ones just give you a confused look like you are speaking in a foreign language.

Train Safety
- Please check the circumference of your extravagant headwear. Wing span is the key term here. Just for the safety of the eye balls of other commuters.
