End of Spring Campaign 2015

This is the last week of our Spring Campaign 2015.

This season just seemed to fly by.

How can that be 18 meetings already?

Tips just seem to grow up so fast these days.

It seems like just yesterday that they were taking their first baby steps in the Lawrence Stakes and already they are all grown up and making their way out to Sandown on their own.

This definitely wasn't our best year on the tipping circuit, but the tips still went OK.

It wasn't the worst year at least. The tips just seemed a little dull overall!

It was mainly the obvious and mundane with hardly any exciting long shots, or beefed up exotics.

It was not like there was no excitement on the racetrack though!

There were old favourites winning, controversial Caulfield Cup rides, torrential rain and cyclone warnings during Cup Week, and the most unbelievable and wonderful Melbourne Cup story you could ever possibly imagine.

Spring Highlights:

- Old favourite MOURINHO kicked off spring in style at Caulfield on Lawrence(Liston) Stakes Day.

- We found a great value $40 roughie - and then threw in an additional typo to accidentally tip a $115,000 Early Quad on Dato Tan Stakes Day.

- There was a $3,000 Early Quad for real this time on Naturalism Stakes Day

- Our Game of Thrones horse racing names story got picked up by the Brisbane Times.

- There were a stack of winners on Blue Sapphire Stakes Day, Caulfield Cup Day and Cox Plate Day. Just not Melbourne Cup Day. Sorry.

- We did manage to find a winner most weeks, but the Betting Portfolio just kept losing a bit each time, which adds up once you get to the end of the season.

P.S. We made PRINCE OF PENZANCE our Best Bet on this day last year. He didn't win.

We obviously have an awful lot of fun running the website regardless, so thank you for joining our spring journey.

Particular thanks goes to the Facebook regulars who throw their two cents worth of comments and likes in every week, and help us out with information and stories.

Thanks also to everyone out there who has passed on this email to friends or sent us encouraging words. Much appreciated.

We always welcome feedback about the crappy gags, tips and website, or debate about the form and we especially love hearing from people when they have had a collect.

You can contact us at info@turfdeli.com.au or post a comment on our Facebook page

We will be back next year, kicking off in August 2016 as per usual.

In the meantime, we will keep posting tips and updates on Facebook and Twitter when we spot something that it is worth having a fling at. Note that you can view this link even if you do not have an account.

About Even

We were pretty close to the money last week on Stakes Day. So close we could smell it, touch it, and get dirty grimy fingers from handling it. Just not fold it up and put it in our wallet to take home for safe keeping.

From eight races there were no winners on top, but three frustrating seconds and two annoying thirds, and four winners in the selections. But they were mainly obvious picks.

Race 2: 10-DIVAN 1st W=$2.90
Race 3: 2-DANDINO 1st W=$3.30
Race 4: 10-PALENTINO 1st W=$7.00, Quin=$19.10
Race 9: 9-MALAGUERRA 1st W=$2.40

When punters say they finished about even, they are normally stretching the truth just a little. But last week the Betting Portfolio finished about as even as you can get, outlaying $100 and getting back $99.05. A grand total loss of 95 cents.

Come on, just one late scratching please so we can call it a profit!

Frustratingly our Best Win bet ran 2nd, our Best Each Way Bets ran 3rd and 2nd and our All Up Place bet ran 2nd, 2nd, 4th and 2nd.

Which means we are pretty much stuck in the red for this season.

2015 Spring Campaign: 18 weeks - 5 profits - 11 returns - 2 wipe out. Net: $-348.95

SANDOWN TRACK GUIDE
______________________________________

If you are heading out to the races on Saturday, check out our Sandown Track Guide.

Handy hints with associated nonsense about where to meet, where to hang out and how to avoid the queues on course.

Except for Sandown Classic Day there are no queues. The spring madness is finally over!

Notes:

Crowning Jewel
Sandown is the crowing jewel of Springvale. Together, Sandown and VFL park formed the pride of 1960's construction, and were prime examples of what you could do with an awful lot of concrete and a few pie warmers in empty paddocks in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Fortunately, although VFL park is long gone, Sandown lives on and is still very, very much in original condition

Status Update
Don't forget to do a Facebook check in to Sandown. It is so very uncool compared to all those checking into Flemington during Cup Week.

Membership has its privileges
The quality of the concrete in the members at Sandown is just grades above what is available in the public.

SPRING CARNIVAL SNAPSHOT

#3 - A HORSE WALKS INTO A BAR

Whilst some racehorses strive to race into Equine Immortality, others are quite content to just have an on-course bar named after them.

THE MOUNTING YARD
___________________________________

Expert punters know how important it is to check out the condition of your horse in the Mounting Yard before the race.

#4 - BANDAGES

May or may not be an issue, it depends on what area is bandaged.

Bandages can be supportive or protective.

However, in general, if your horse is on crutches then that is a really, really bad sign.
